Day 1 - Shelbyville,KY to Just Outside of St. Louis, MO

Day 1, the start of our journey, turned out successfully if a bit hectic and hot. Once the RV was parked at our house and ready to be loaded we had a crew of about 15-20 of our friends and family helping us load up and organize our massive supplies of food, luggage, paper goods, etc. They were a huge help and it made the process of furnishing our new "home on wheels" alot easier and (relatively) stress free! However, wouldn't you know it, about half way through the load up process it began to storm and pour rain. At that point we had no other choice but to try our best to get our luggage and bags either onto the RV or back into the garage! It was a close call!
Afterward, we were all soaked - either from the rain or sweat or both. But, we were ready to hit the road and head out for some fun! After ALL of our family got together and prayed for a safe trip we all loaded up, found our spots to sit and headed out. The girls LOVED the bunk bed area as they could hole up in the bunks, pull the curtains and pretend they were in a fort secluded from the rest of us!

We drove all the way to St. Louis before we stopped for dinner. After the girls saw the St. Louis Arch (at which they oohheed and aahheed):

we stopped at a KOA campground to grill out and give the kiddos some time to play and release some energy. After some tasty burgers and hot dogs and showers for the girls it was back on the trusty RV to tuck the girls into bed and log some additional road time. We drove for another hour or two and pulled over to sleep in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

It wasn't the best sleep we'd ever gotten - we slept without the generator running with the windows open so it was hot! - but it was free and worked for just a few hours' sleep. The girls were up and at 'em around 7:30 am so we showered, dressed and made pancakes for breakfast before hitting the road again!

Stay tuned...
