So, we're nearing the end of our 3rd day and, I think we'd all agree, this has been our most fun day of the trip yet!
We got started a little late out of Tulsa this morning so we drove straight through all day until we reached the "Leaning Tower of Texas" and the "192 ft Cross of the Plains" in Groom, TX. Both were awesome sights to see and, again, Historic Route 66 Roadside Attractions. The Cross was especially awesome as it wasn't just the Cross itself that we were able to enjoy. There was a full replication of Jesus' journey to Calvary with each step in the Passion represented. A-MAZ-ING!
After that we were back on the RV for a short time before arriving in Amarillo at the famous "Big Texan Steak Ranch!" Seriously, most fun we've had in A. Long. Time. It's huge (of course, what else would you expect in Texas?), colorful with a fun atmosphere (traveling musicians who visit your table and take songs by request) and, most importantly, serves up competition to all who dare to try to eat the infamous 72 oz steak and all the fixins' in under an hour. Wow! The guys, luckily, were not going to actually compete for this honor (though they did consider it at length) but we were able to watch one person compete for and WIN this coveted title!
We shopped the gift store for a bit before returning to the RV. We decided tonight to put the girls to bed and continue driving for awhile. We want to have enough time to spend at the Grand Canyon so we're trying to get a move on. We just passed the state line of New Mexico, gassed up, found a strange little hamster looking animal in the parking lot, had the gas station attendant and Mickey save it while we screeched and now we're scoping out Wal-Marts to snooze.
More to come!
